Minor H Challenge

July 12, 2020

Report from Minor game this morning in Cloyne:-

Whitecurch Minors continued their build up to the hurling championship this morning with a game against Cloyne in East Cork this morning. Playing with the aid of the breeze in the first half we started brightly and led 3 points to no score early on. Cloyne hit back with two quick goals from their full forward who was the difference between the two teams today. It would be remiss of us not to compliment the lad on a great display that included movement, fielding & finishing. He bagged 5 goals in total and still it would be hard to criticise our defence on any of them such was his skill. We finished the first half 4-01 to 0-07 behind but what an exhibition our lads gave of hooking, blocking and tackling especially as we were up against a far more physical team. Two early second half goals gave the scoreboard an unbalanced look, however, our boys never stopped going til the final whistle. We kept Cloyne scoreless for the last 10 mins while we rattled off some great points ourselves. This was a great team performance overall and a great workout while we build up to the Lisgoold game. Special mention to Mark Callanan who was back to his brilliant best today, Calum Kelleher, Brian O’ Reilly and Ronan Murphy who got some great scores during the match.
