April accolade for Brian

June 15, 2019

During the month of April , the club championship in both Football and Hurling began. For one particular Club it was extra special as Fermoy recorded brilliant wins in hurling and football.

The football victory, over a highly rated Castlehaven side was especially significant as they were making their return to the senior championship after a long absence, while Courcey Rovers were defeated in Premier Intermediate Hurling.

A key player in both wins was dual star Brian O’Sullivan and in recognition of this he was the recipient of the 96FM/C103 GAA Sports Star of the month award for April in association with the Rochestown Park Hotel.

In accepting the award Brian said “it’s an honour to be here and my thanks to the sponsors and also to my club mates on both teams for what were two outstanding wins and we can now look forward to the rest of the season.” County Board Chairperson Tracey Kennedy also congratulated Brian and Fermoy on their excellent wins and wished them well for the rest of the season. Tracey also complimented 96FM/C103 not only for these awards, now in their 16th year, but for the excellent coverage and promotion of our games, while the Rochestown Park Hotel are also outstanding supporters of Cork GAA. Kieran Mc Geary 96FM and Tom Tobin RPH also congratulated Brian on his well deserved award.

Family and friends along with Fermoy Officers were in attendance as was Football coach Michael Hennessey, Isabel Keane 96FM and Munster Council Treasurer Pearse Murphy.

Brian now join’s January winner Charleville’s Daniel O’Flynn,  February’s recipients UCC duo Cian Kiely and Shane Kingston, March winner Darragh Moran Midleton CBS Harty Cup, in the race for the overall award.

The 2020 gala banquet will be held on the 31st January and we are delighted that the guest of honour on the night will be GAA President John Horan.
