County Committee Meeting Report

July 16, 2019

The County Committee met on 16/07/2019. The minutes of the previous meeting (18/06/2019) were taken as read and adopted, as was the Progress Report.

The Central Council delegate, Bob Ryan, gave a detailed report on the previous Central Council meeting, including details of a clarification he had received from the GAA in relation to media comments by Peter McKenna last December. The County Chairperson asked clubs to give careful consideration to a number of documents distributed with the Central Council report relating to discipline, the proposed Tier 2 football championship, fixture scheduling and talent academies/age structures, which would be considered at the next meeting.

The Munster Council report was delivered by Michael Byrne, followed by various inter-county match reports. The Cork Senior footballers were complimented on their improved performance by a number of delegates, while disappointment was expressed at the Senior hurlers' exit from Championship. The Chairperson thanked all players and management teams for their efforts this year, and noted that while the terms of all managers, apart from Senior Football, were up this year, the appointment of the High Performance Manager would be completed before the process of appointing or re-appointing team managers began. Good wishes were extended to the Cork Senior, U20 and Minor footballers and the U20 hurlers ahead of upcoming games.

A full update was given to delegates on the Páirc Uí Chaoimh pitch replacement.

The Runaí delivered the CCC report including a detailed report on the leagues, the new format for which had worked very successfully, and he thanked the clubs for their co-operation with this. It was agreed that two periods of ten minutes extra time, followed if necessary by two further five-minute periods, would be played if required in all Round 2, 3 and 4 games in the County Championships. The Chairperson announced details of a new ticket package costing €100 and covering all remaining games in the County Championships apart from the Senior hurling and football finals and the games played with them.

Views were sought and expressed on various areas of the County Bye-Laws, with the Bye-Laws Sub-Committee to formulate proposals for discussion by the Executive and later the County Board. The Runaí addressed the Rebel Og proposals,  informing clubs that more detail around the proposed age grades would be provided before they were expected to make any decision.

The Development Officer reminded the delegates about the deadline for upcoming Munster grant applications.

The meeting concluded with votes of sympathy, and the next meeting will be held on Tuesday August 13th .
